Laser Mole Removal
“Moles can be removed using surgical methods or lasers. Not every nevus (mole) is suitable for laser removal. First, moles should be examined by a dermatologist using a tool called a dermatoscope (a magnifying device). Suspicious or cancerous moles, as well as pigmented moles that may pose a cancer risk in the future, should be removed surgically. For benign moles that do not carry a risk of cancer, laser removal is an option. The choice of removal method depends on the dermatoscopic examination and, if applicable, biopsy results. The method chosen may vary depending on the type of mole. Therefore, it is important to have a thorough evaluation before proceeding with laser mole removal if suitable.
The area where the mole will be removed is numbed using a local anesthetic. The laser procedure is painless. No stitches are needed, but a small scab will form at the site and heal within 1-2 weeks.
If the procedure will be performed in a sun-exposed area, we recommend scheduling it during the winter months.
Will There Be Scarring After Mole Removal?
Moles can be removed either surgically or with a laser. Both methods may leave small scars. However, with the current laser technologies, scars are typically less noticeable compared to surgical methods.”
